The Szórakaténusz Toy Museum and Workshop of the Katona József Museum of Kecskemét with nationwide scope of collecting and scientific work covers the objectives and intellectual values of the Hungarian and universal culture of play and toys. Besides the ancient snail shell toys, the simple folk toys and the toys of the middle-class in the pre-war era, the objects and traditions of the play culture of neighbouring countries and remote peoples can also be found in our collection. Family bequests provide a special background for some pieces from the life of the middle-class from the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.
Our permanent exhibition refreshed in 2019 is open to the public.
Our visitors can try out toy making at our workshop. In addition to the arts and crafts activities, the Dance of the Little Ones, the Kite Flying Gathering and the Board Games Days as well as the professional workshops are all included in our permanent programmes.
During these four days you can try out replicas of old toys. You can also do easy magic tricks and make paper rocking-horses, mini roly poly dolls, Japanese paper fans and get to know interesting facts about the world of toys through our quiz about toy history.
