CHILDREN PHILHARMONIC OF VLĂHIŢA / SZENTEGYHÁZA

Founded by professor Sándor Haáz in 1982 by joining the choir and the brass and string orchestra of School No. 1 (today the “Martonffi János” General School) from Vlăhiţa/Szentegyháza in county Harghita/Hargita, The Children Philharmonic of Vlăhiţa/Szentegyháza is a choral ensemble, as well as an orchestra made up of children. The school is nonetheless a music school, therefore, the children – be they local or commuting from the neighbouring Căpâlniţa/Kápolnásfalu and Lueta/Lövéte – are constantly giving up on their spare time to learn choral and instrumental skills. The members have been almost always stable in number, and the concerts are given by the choir of 100 children and the accompanying orchestra of 40, all dressed in traditional Szekler costumes.

Within the tour “Children’s Voices for Europe” in 2011, The Children Philharmonic of Vlăhiţa/Szentegyháza spread the fame of the musical culture in the Szeklerland by performing not only in Bruxelles but also in front of the Belgian Parliament, as well as in the European Parliament. During the first three decades subsequent to its setup, The Philharmonic has held approximately 800 concerts both, locally and abroad. On the 10th   edition of the Hungarian Cultural Days in Cluj/Kolozsvár, you will have the opportunity to enjoy one of their legendary productions.
