Szentes Zágon SOLO never alone.
Zágon Szentes is a Cluj-based painter, photographer and graphic designer, well known among contemporary Transylvanian art and literature lovers. His artistic activities and approaches cover a wide range of techniques, easily moving across genres and nurturing a very close relationship with literature, through the book covers he designs; on this occasion we will get acquainted with his paintings, a careful selection of the past ten years.
On his paintings we detect an “interplay of riddles, a sort of hidden visionary of the archaic world of fairy tales, dreams, collective fears and desires – the artist’s signature being an integral part of each; there is no fixed practice in which corner of the painting we will find the painter’s specimen signature. The name and the date are part of the composition as well as the exuberance of colors and shapes.” Zágon Szentes’s world is heavily burdensome and light as a feather at the same time, a combination of sparkling tones and seriously deep stories, a tension that can only be resolved through storytelling, obeying the implicit invitation we all receive from the canvas.
Looking further our framed existence, shaping our mere reality by re-writing predetermined narratives is a solo task, in which we are never alone.
